Training & Development

The department is involved in a wide range of education and training activities both within and outside the Trust. These include formal training schemes for clinical scientists and technologists, a nationally-advertised laser safety study course, and training in prevention of pressure sores.  Our staff also provide physics training on the FRCR (Fellow of Royal College of Radiologists) course, training in biomechanics for the orthopaedics part of the FRCS (Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons) course and undergraduate medical physics teaching for the University of Southampton . Courses in radiation safety including Radiation Protection Survisors and IRM(E)R are run by the Radiation Protection Group. The Neurological Physics Group now offers training in Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound and the Vascular Lab provides education to clinical staff in the principles of vascular measurement and also carries out in-service training in vascular measurement techniques.
