Research & Development (R&D)
The
Department has an active programme of Research & Development
associated with improving patient care. The majority of the research is
undertaken by Clinical Scientists (Medical Physicists and Clinical
Engineers), Audiological Scientists, medical and nursing staff. Some
of the research is funded by Government bodies, Research Councils and
commercial companies. Currently
within the Medical Physics & Bioengineering Department there is major research relating to pressure sore
prevention and tissue viability, cerebral blood flow autoregulation,
non-invasive intra cranial pressure measurement, drug deposition within
the respiratory system, imaging and projects within the sphere of clinical
bioengineering. Several
members of staff are undertaking research training and are registered for
part time post graduate degrees. Please
refer to the following broad categories for more information: Many
of these activities directly benefit patients and most lead to publications
or patents. We also have an ongoing program of seminars on a range of topics.
